Jon Jones took back his UFC light heavyweight title, delivering a head-kick knockout of Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 Saturday night.
Jones, a former champion who was stripped of the belt, connected in the third round with the kick to hand Cormier his second career loss – and first via finish. Both defeats have been at the hands of “Bones.”
In the co-main event, Tyron Woodley remained welterweight champion with a decision victory over Demian Maia. However, Woodley didn’t make any new fans during the bout, as the Honda Center crowed showered down boos on both fighters after the 25-minute battle.
Woodley, a former NCAA wrestling standout, successfully defended all 23 takedown attempts by Maia, a former middleweight title challenger. What brought about the crowd displeasure was that Woodley landed 45 total strikes to just 23 by Maia.
