If Daniel Cormier has his way, it will be long-time rival Jon Jones stepping inside the Octagon to fight him at UFC 214 this summer.
Cormier, the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion, issued his comments during a recent episode of “UFC Tonight” regarding Jones taking a tune-up fight or stepping directly into the Octagon with the champion.
“Take the fight with me, Jon Jones,” Cormier said. “There’re no tune-up fights in the UFC. Try to get your title back. Come meet your boy DC. Get your money. Let’s give people the show. It’s my rules, I’m the champ now. The guy we saw against Ovince Saint Preux is the new USADA-regulated Jon Jones. Yes, I will beat him up July 29.”
Cormier’s lone career loss came to Jones via decision.
“Bones” was suspended for a year after a failed drug test. He was scheduled to meet Cormier last July to unify the titles after an extended hiatus prior to his win over Saint Preux.
