Don’t think for a second that Liz Carmouche didn’t realize she made history once against at UFC 205.
Carmouche bested Katlyn Chookagian via split decision to kickoff Saturday’s card, earning the first win for the promotion in Madison Square Garden. Carmouche also fought Ronda Rousey in the first-ever UFC female title fights several years ago.
“It feels amazing to pick up the first-ever UFC victory in New York City,” she said. “I didn’t anticipate the takedowns coming as easily. I really wanted to stand and bang with her, but the takedowns came natural and I decided to exploit that.”
Carmouche (11-5) had not fought since early in 2015 when he bested Lauren Murphy via decision. She has gone 3-3 over her last six, but the three losses were to Rousey, former champion Miesha Tate and one-time title contender Alexis Davis. The Tate and Davis defeats were via decision.
“I am very happy to be back and want to get back to work soon,” she said. “I’ll take anybody in the division.”
