Kevin Lee stuck to his plan and used his wrestling to claim a decision win over Efrain Escudero Saturday night at UFC 197.
Lee (12-2) earned his fifth win over his last six, including his fourth decision. He suffered a first round loss to Leonardo Santos this past December that snapped a four-fight win streak.
“I had to do what I had to do,” he said. “I was coming off a tough loss that I thought was a fluke, so I had to get the ‘W.'”
In his Octagon debut back in 2014, Lee suffered his first pro loss, falling to Al Iaquinta via decision. He reeled off wins over Jesse Ronson, Jon Tuck, Michel Prazeres and James Moontasri. before the loss to Santos.
“(Escudero) is a vet, he’s never been dropped and he’s dropped some guys,” Lee said. “I was just trying to touch him and let him fall when he falls.
“In the end, I had to stick to my wrestling to get it done.”
Escudero (24-11) has dropped two straight, losing to Leandro Silva via decision in November. He is 3-4 over his last seven, having won the Ultimate Fighter title back in 2008.
