Dustin Poirier vs. Joseph Duffy

We’ll get our first treat of the night, as lightweights Dustin Poirier (18-4) and Joseph Duffy (14-1) conclude the Fight Pass prelims. These two were scheduled for a main event from Ireland late last year, but Duffy was removed due to concussion symptoms.

Round 1: These two have had a lot of time to prepare for one another. They tie up and exchange, as Poirier appeared to get the better of that first battle. Duffy with loose hands, as they are just hanging there. He’s popping quick shots from the awkward stance, including a big uppercut. Another shot catches Poirier and he’s hurt. Duffy starts to go to the body, just misses on a head-kick. Poirier with a left but Duffy just shakes it off. Poirier grabs the clinch and starts to tee off, landing with uppercuts and jabs. He gets in and scores with a takedown. “The Diamond” did a lot of damage from the ground. As Poirier started to stand up, he saw Duffy’s face open and connects with a nasty elbow.

Round 2: Poirier’s nose might be broken, as it’s pouring blood. Duffy, meanwhile, has a cut under his nose and swelling around an eye. Takedown for Poirier, but Duffy’s got his back against the fence. Poirier’s nose continues to leak blood and he’s pushing it up against the legs of Duffy. No way that feels good! All Poirier despite the nose, hammering away with elbows and punches. Duffy’s using a lot of energy to work to his feet. The left eye of Duffy appears to be almost completely swollen shut. At this point, whichever fighter can survive their injury might earn the win. With a minute left, Poirier starts teeing off with hard right hands.

Round 3: Both fighters were talking after the round, asking if the other enjoyed the punishment before Poirier let out a loud scream. Poirier in deep and scores easily with another takedown. Duffy rolls and grabs a leg, but after remaining calm, Poirier’s able to escape and winds up back on top. The two were rolling and even talking to one another, but the ref elects to stand them up with a minute left. Duffy with a deep triangle but the round and fight comes to an end.

Scott Holtzman vs. Drew Dober

We’ll remain in the lightweight division, as unbeaten Scott Holtzman (8-0) takes on Drew Dober (15-7). This bout kicks off the FOX Sports 1 prelims.

Round 1: Dober gains the early advantage as they clinch, rolling and rumbling around the Octagon. Holtzman takes back the advantage, landing with knees to the body. Dober, though, scores with a takedown as we head under two minutes. A second successful takedown for Dober is met by a nasty elbow from the bottom. Dober even getting the better of the striking here in the final minute.

Round 2: Dober comes out again strong, attempting a takedown but landing with nasty shots, including an elbow. Holtzman, now, brings him down to his world with a takedown and plenty of time to work. Huge cut over the left eye of Holtzman, likely from one of those elbows. Dober working hard to get up, but he’s unsuccessful with 90 seconds left. Dober tries for another trip takedown and winds up on his back to end the round.

Round 3: Good exchange of rights from the two, with Dober landing another left. He tries to power his way through for a takedown, getting it on the second attempt. Dober again gets a takedown, but this time, Holtzman pops up. Once more, another takedown for Dober. We have a break in the action, as Herb Dean wants to see the cut on Holtzman’s face. He brings in the doctor and we’re right back to fighting with 90 seconds left.
