Alistair Overeem has achieved greatness at every stop along his MMA career.
After defeating Junior dos Santos at UFC on FOX 17, Overeem is hopeful to achieve that goal next, as he wants to face the winner of Fabricio Werdum-Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title.
“I’ve had like 85 fights – it’s something on the inside, I just keep fighting. I’m not done yet. I haven’t gotten the UFC belt yet. That’s the only fight on my radar. Fabricio Werdum has something that I need,” he said, during an interview on the post-fight show.
Overeem earned his 40th career win this past weekend, but believes he has found a career-rebirth by joining up with the famed Jackson-Winkeljohn gym in New Mexico. He also credited his decision to “add some of my coaches from Europe” to his camp.
As for his win over “Cigano,” Overeem stated that he was “ready for everything.”
“We were ready for him to stop blasting,” he said. “He’s a very dangerous opponent, so you have to stay patient. I don’t make any mistakes. You have to force them to make mistakes.
“I’m good anywhere. We were even waiting for Junior to try to take me down.”
The bout was the final one on Overeem’s contract, leaving him to explore other offers moving forward.
