It’s been over a week now since Holm turned the MMA world upside down by taking out Ronda Rousey, and now, speculation continues as to who will be next for the decorated fighter. Of course, an immediate rematch with Rousey is likely the front runner, but it remains to be seen if the UFC goes with that match-up. Miesha Tate and Amanda Nunes are also gunning for a fight with Holm.
Then, there’s “Cyborg”, who for months and months was widely viewed as the only legitimate threat to Rousey. Due to the latter’s defeat, there isn’t as much talk anymore about a superfight with Justino. But, could the UFC look at having Holm fight “Justino” at some juncture?
Recently Holm’s coach, Mike Winkeljohn appeared on the Talking Brawls show, and he was asked about the bantamweight fighting “Cyborg”. Here’s some of what he had to say:
“I’ll tell you what: Holly has never turned down a fight before in her life. It won’t be on Holly’s terms if she turns down a fight, unless she retires. Holly will fight anybody, anywhere. She’s that tough, mentally. She believes in herself and what she can do. Cris cyborg is just incredible with her strength and with what she can so. I don’t know if she can make the weight at 135lbs, yet. She’s got a lot of holes in her game, a lot of craziness. That girl is so strong, so we’d have to be worried about it, but Holly would fight her in a heart beat,”
Now, really, it’s not surprising to hear Winkeljohn say this, as Holm did just take out a woman who was widely considered to be the most dominant champ on the planet. So, chances are she wouldn’t be too worried about fighting Justino.
The key thing here, however, is whether “Cyborg” can make 135. The UFC wasn’t on board with having her fight Rousey at a catchweight, and chances are they won’t sign off on that with Holm either. So, unless Justino can make the drop, all this speculation is pretty much pointless.
