“UFC Tonight” hosts Daniel Cormier and Kenny Florian were joined this past week by Paige VanZant as they previewed tonight’s UFC 193 main event.
Ronda Rousey defends her bantamweight title against Holly Holm on pay-per-view from Australia, and FightLine will be providing complete coverage.
Cormier, the reigning light heavyweight champion, believes there is one key area Holm needs to excel at to succeed.
“First and foremost she has to believe in herself and in her team preparing for championship fights,” he said. “She has to maintain distance. She can’t be close to Ronda. She needs to jab and move, make Ronda feel uncomfortable and look for her to make mistakes.”
VanZant, who meets Rose Namajunas in a key strawweight contest later this year, sees patience as a virtue for the challenger.
“She needs to keep the distance, not close in and rush Ronda,” she said. “Ronda really capitalizes and uses her judo when she gets rushed.”
Florian, meanwhile, knows that preparation has been key for Holm.
“This is the fight Holly has been expecting for a long time,” he said. “She’s been working with an Olympic teammate of Ronda’s sharpening up her judo for a long time. She needs to keep it standing, stick and move, and outpoint Ronda for the win.”
