After more than two years away from active competition, Michael McDonald will return to the Octagon, meeting Masanori Kanehara at UFC 195.

Set for January 2 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the card features a main event between welterweight champion Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit.

McDonald (16-3) has won five of seven fights with the UFC, but injuries have kept him on the sidelines since late in 2013. He dropped that bout to Urijah Faber.

Kanehara (25-12-5) owns a 1-1 Octagon record, besting Alex Caceres via decision and losing to Rani Yahya.
