Conor McGregor has repeatedly said that he has the UFC’s lightweight title in his sights, but if Rafael dos Anjos is concerned about the possible move, the reigning champ has a funny way of showing it.
Although McGregor is the interim featherweight champ, and has a December 12th bout booked with 145 king Jose Aldo, “Notorious” plans to move back to 155 in the not too distant future. In fact, McGregor has even said that if he defeats Aldo, he’d be interested in fighting contender Frankie Edgar, but that’s it as far as 145.
Now, McGregor has also argued that he’ll take out dos Anjos, if the latter is still holding the belt down the line. Well, RDA recently spoke to FOX Sports in advance of his upcoming bout with Donald Cerrone, and of course, he was asked about McGregor. Here is what dos Anjos had to say about the brash, featherweight star (quote via FOX Sports.com):
“I don’t care about (Conor) McGregor. He’s a small guy, I would crush him,” dos Anjos said. “If he wants to take my title I would love to crush him, but right now I don’t think he’s a big challenge. There are bigger names to beat.”
How about that? Chances are Mr. McGregor will have something to say in response. McGregor is certainly big for 145, but it would be interesting to see how he’d do against 155érs. More specifically, lightweights like RDA who are ridiculous threats standing and on the fground.
Of course, lots has to go down before RDA-McGregor can happen, and dos Anjos also reported that he’s really hoping to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov again. The latter–who recently went down with another injury– decisioned dos Anjos last April.
RDA-Cerrone will headline UFC on FOX 17, which will take place on December 19th in Orlando.
