Rafael Carvalho became the new Bellator middleweight champion with a second round finish of Brandon Halsey Friday night in the main event of Bellator 144.

The loss was the first for Halsey, who was stripped of the title earlier this year after missing weight. Carvalho has not lost since his pro debut, winning each of his last 12.

Brennan Ward delighted the home crowd with a first round finish of Dennis Olson in the co-main event.

Olson entered the fight as the underdog against Ward, a native of Connecticut. He attempted to get the crowd riled up by using a hand gesture all the way to the cage.

Goiti Yamauchi picked up a third round submission win over Isao Kobayashi and Michael Page started the main card by finishing Charlie Ontiveros in the first round.

On the prelims, Kin Moy, Billy Giovanella, Matt Bessette, Kevin Haley, Matt Secor, Marius Enache and Sam Watford earned victories.
