Emotions were running wild for Takeya Mizugaki, as the Japanese fighter tied the record for UFC/WEC bantamweight wins with a decision victory over George Roop Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 75.

Using exceptional takedown defense and effective striking, Mizugaki (21-9-2) snapped a two-fight losing streak with the win. He had suffered losses to Aljamain Sterling and Dominick Cruz after winning five in a row.

“After I lost to Cruz, I thought I couldn’t continue in this sport anymore,” said Mizugaki, who was crying after the decision was announced. “I couldn’t give up and I got this decision. I tried so hard and am so happy right now.”

Between 2012-14, Mizugaki worked his way into the Top-10 with wins over Francisco Rivera, Nam Phan, Erik Perez, Bryan Caraway and Jeff Hougland. He now has 10 wins in the division between the UFC and WEC.
