During Eddie Alvarez’s career he’s always stood out due to his skills and toughness, but according to the lightweight, there’s another reason he’s particularly unique…

Alvarez recently appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and while doing so, he discussed the fact Gilbert Melendez failed his post-fight drug test after they scrapped in June (Alvarez won the UFC 188 bout via unanimous decision).

Here is some of what the former Bellator champ had to say (quote via MMA Fighting.com):

“I never looked at him as someone who would use something like that,” Alvarez noted about Melendez.

“I’m really gullible with that stuff,” Alvarez said. “I assume nobody does it. When I train with guys, I assume they don’t do that stuff, it’s pretty rampant. I’m like a f—— unicorn in this sport, I’m a weirdo in that I don’t do anything.”

There were certainly a lot of people who were surprised by Melendez’s drug test results. The same can be said when it was announced that Anderson Silva had tested positive for PEDs.

Following the news, Melendez claimed he “did not inject anything”,and that “going forward I will ensure no products I use will contain banned substances.” The former Strikeforce champ, who was coming off a loss to Anthony Pettis, was suspended for one year.

PED talk aside, Alvarez is expected to fight the aforementioned Pettis on January 17th. The UFC hasn’t officially announced the bout, but Alvarez has said the scrap is on. It should be a doozy.
