Robert Whittaker is just 24 years old, so one would have to believe his best days are still ahead of him.
One of those days might be coming sooner than expected, though, as Whittaker meets Michael Bisping this November at UFC 193. He’ll get to fight on just his third pay-per-view card, but this one takes place in Australia.
“I was absolutely astounded by being able to get the perfect fight to put in front of such a large crowd, and then in front of my home crowd,” said Whittaker, during a recent interview with Submission Radio. “Words can’t really describe it. It’s gonna be an amazing event, and me and him are gonna put on an amazing show.”
Whittaker (14-4) is on a three-fight win streak and is 5-2 overall inside the Octagon, including a victory in 2012 that won him the title of Ultimate Fighter. Still, he is “under-the-radar” as far as most are concerned when discussing the best of the best at welterweight.
“I think Bisping’s gonna bring it. I think he’s gonna come there with an expectation to win,” Whittaker said. “He’s got a huge array of skills and their all tried and tested, but I think I’m faster, stronger more explosive and I’m hungrier to be honest.”
