Competing a day shy of his 37th birthday, Francisco Trinaldo went ahead and delivered his own gift.
Trinaldo scored a first round finish of Chad Laprise, handing the Canadian his first loss at UFC Fight Night 74 Sunday night.
For “Massaranduba,” the finish was his fourth straight win and pushed his overall mark to 18-4 and his Octagon record to 8-3. He earned his first finish since a 2013 submission win over Mike Rio.
“I ask my mother to throw a party for all the kids in Brazil,” he said. “Because I didn’t get to have a birthday party. Today, I can afford it.
“The kids can have anything they want.”
After falling via decision to Michael Chiesa last year, Trinaldo has now topped Laprise, Norman Parke, Akbarh Arreola and Leandro Silva.
As for who could be next, Trinaldo stated “my coach knows best. He know who I should fight next.”
Laprise (10-1), a former Ultimate Fighter winner, is now 3-1 within the Octagon.
