Over the course of his career, Josh Burkman had never been stopped by strikes.

Patrick Cote took that challenge to heart, earning a third round TKO victory over Burkman at UFC Fight Night 74 Sunday night.

The 35-year-old “Predator” admitted he was knocked woozy by a shot from Burkman, but battled back and earned his first stoppage win since a 2012 knockout outside of the Octagon. Cote is 4-1 over his last five, losing only via decision to Stephen Thompson last year.

“I improved more in the last year than the previous 10,” Cote said. “I got dizzy (from the shot), but I came back; I’m a warrior.”

Following the win, Cote challenged Hector Lombard to a fight in early 2016. Lombard was suspended for a year after failing his post-fight drug test following a win over Burkman.

“He cheated, I take the challenge now,” Cote said. “When you come back in January, I’ll be here for you, man.”

Burkman (27-12) suffered a second straight loss and is now just 1-3 with a no-contest over his last five fights.
