CM Punk and Cathal Pendred have been at it for a little while now, and following a recent, fiery exchange on Twitter, the latter isn’t letting up.
Immediately after the UFC announced it had signed the former WWE star, Pendred started ‘volunteering’ his services, in terms of welcoming Punk to the Octagon. Recently, the two fired tweets each other’s way, and then Pendred had more to say about Punk in an opinion piece he authored for the “Irish Mirror”.
Well, Pendred recently appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and guess what? He was asked about his growing beef with Punk. Here is some of what the Irish fighter had to say about the former pro-wrestler (quotes via MMA Fighting.com):
“I reckon he thinks Pendred is the way to go, and if that’s the way he wants to go, there’s a couple of hundred thousand reasons I think it will be the way to go, too.”
“My striking has looked atrocious in the UFC so far, and that’s the type of guy I am,” Pendred said. “I have no problem ripping it out of myself. But [CM Punk’s footage] made me look good. I’ve seen boxercise classes where people were hitting the pads better than that.”
Now that’s how you grab headlines folks. While all this makes for interesting copy, this fight seems pretty unlikely, unless the UFC books it where there’s no commission. Pendred has 20 pro bouts to his name; Punk has 0.
In the meantime, Pendred is booked to fight Tom Breese at UFC FN 76, which will take place in Dublin on October 24th.
