Khabib Nurmagomedov doesn’t have his next fight booked quite yet, but the lightweight contender has listed several men that he’d like to face, when he returns to the Octagon.
Since Nurmagomedov has been sidelined for over a year due to knee injuries, “The Eagle” will have to win one more fight, before he’s tapped for a title shot. Following his well documented brawl with the Diaz brothers, Nurmagomedov was calling for a bout with Nate Diaz, but the undefeated fighter decided go in another direction.
Of course, since Nurmagomedov is ranked #3 and Pettis is #1, a lot of folks believe the UFC is going to book that fight. Well, Nurmagomedov recently spoke to MMA Junkie.com, and while discussing who he wants to fight next, he stated this (quote via Bloody Elbow.com):
“I want to fight Anthony Pettis because he is the No. 1 ranking. All my life I wanted fight against best fighters. Now, the best fighter in the lightweight division is Rafael Dos Años, but he already have opponent, Cowboy Cerrone, so who’s next? Anthony Pettis. So, I want to fight him.”
“If the UFC no want to give me this guy, then I do not know. Maybe Eddie Alvarez and Tony Ferguson , like these guys. The lightweight division now has a lot of tough guys…”
All three of those fights would certainly be interesting, but you would think, considering the ranking of Pettis and Khabib, that’s the fight to make no? Can “Showtime” become the first man to defeat the ridiculously talented grappler? Don’t bet the farm, house and or condo on it…
