Joe Lauzon did what he does best Saturday night inside the United Center.

Lauzon locked up a takedown, transitioned to the back and finished Takanori Gomi to start the UFC on FOX 16 main card.

A multi-time bonus winner, Lauzon flattened the former PRIDE champion out and finished him with devastating shots. Lauzon actually walked away and off Gomi before referee Herb Dean called an end to the contest.

“He is a legend in this sport and it was cool to be in the cage with him,” Lauzon said. “It was crappy hurting your hero, but that is the way it goes.

“I knew he was unconscious and I didn’t wanna do any extra.”

Lauzon admitted, though, that he was concerned after Dean didn’t immediately stop it, adding “I was getting ready to run over there.”

The 31-year-old improved to 25-10 with the win, and 3-1 in his last four. He has finished the likes of Gomi, Michael Chiesa, Jamie Varner and Melvin Guillard over the past four years.

The finish, Lauzon’s 11th inside the Octagon, tied him for fifth all-time.
