Former Invicta FC champion Michelle Waterson made a triumphant debut in the Octagon recently, besting Angela Magana.
Waterson, who suffered a broken finger during the win, recently talked with Submission Radio about her debut.
“It was definitely a new experience,” Waterson said. “I’ve been with Invicta for the past two years basically, and coming from an all-female organization – and actually my last three fights have all been five-round fights and fighting the main event – and so kind of being able to come in under the radar on such a busy week like international fight week was kind of nice, because I just went in there and took care of business and then I could just relax and chill out, then watch all the fights.”
After competing at atomweight for Invicta FC, “The Karate Hottie” feels at home fighting at 115 pounds. She earned a win over recent UFC title contender Jessica Penne during her time with the all-female promotion.
“No. I don’t think I would’ve even approached the UFC if I didn’t think I could handle myself at that weight. I’m actually really happy being in the strawweight division,” she said. “I feel like I’m able to keep my strength that I’ve put on throughout the years, and I also am not stressed about diet. I’m able to train really hard, I’m still eating really good, filling my body with good stuff, but my focus on my camp no is the training and not depleting myself to get down to 105.”
