UFC officials announced the main event for UFC 191 Wednesday night, as Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight title against John Dodson.
The event takes place September 5 from Las Vegas and the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Previously, Daniel Cormier vs. Alexander Gustafsson was rumored for the card, but that is now expected for later in the year.
Johnson (22-2-1) is the only man to wear the UFC 125-pound title. “Mighty Mouse” captured the belt in 2012 with a split decision victory over Joseph Benavidez, besting Dodson in 2013.
Overall, Johnson’s made six title defenses, finishing each of his last two foes via submission. His recent win in April over Kyoji Horiguchi came with just one second left in the final round.
Dodson (17-6) has won three straight since that loss to Johnson, including a May decision over former Bellator champion Zach Makovsky. The ex-Ultimate Fighter winner was returning from knee surgery suffered last year in training.
The fight joins announced bouts between Anthony Johnson and Jan Blachowicz, Francisco Rivera and John Lineker, Paige VanZant and Alex Chambers, along with Benavidez and former U.S. Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo.
