The UFC completed a weekend doubleheader Sunday with The Ultimate Fighter 21 Finale from Las Vegas.
Stephen Thompson earned a knockout victory over No. 9 Jake Ellenberger in his first UFC main event, unloading with several spinning hook kicks – the last of which knocked “The Juggernaut” out. The second ended the fight in the opening round, giving “Wonderboy” the biggest win of his career.
Blackzilians standout Kamaru Usman claimed a victory over American Top Team’s Hayder Hassan in the finals of The Ultimate Fighter 21. Usman locked up a tight choke early in the second round after controlling the first, netting himself his sixth career victory and $300,000 for his gym.
In the second ATT vs. Blackzilians battle, it was Michael Graves using his wrestling to claim a decision victory over Vicente Luque. Both fighters went 1-1 during the season and earned another shot to perform inside the Octagon.
Making his Octagon debut at welterweight, Jorge Masvidal showed his power and strength by knocking out Cezar Ferreira. Masvidal, a top contender in the lightweight ranks, landed with a nasty counter to defeat the Brazilian.
Former Invicta FC atomweight champion Michelle Waterson made a splash in her UFC debut, submitting Angela Magana with a third round rear-naked choke. Waterson survived an early armbar, coming back to control and dominate Magana, an alum of The Ultimate Fighter.
Maximo Blanco started the main card off with a bang, flooring Mike De La Torre and earning a victory in just 16 seconds. After connecting with a combination, the referee stepped in even though De La Torre appeared to be ready to continue.
TUF alum Josh Samman stole the show on the prelims, ending the early fights with a first round submission win over Caio Magalhaes. After blooding the Brazilian, Samman locked up a rear-naked choke in just under three minutes for the win.
Jerrod Sanders, a heavy underdog to Russell Doane, upset the Hawaiian by scoring a decision victory. Trevor Smith spoiled the Octagon return of Dan Miller, earning an easy decision.
