UFC president Dana White announced Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber as the coaches for the upcoming 22nd season of The Ultimate Fighter.

TUF 21 recently concluded and featured American Top Team vs. the Blackzilians in the first-ever camp vs. camp season.

Sixteen lightweights, with eight from the U.S. and eight from Europe, will compete on the show for a contract with the UFC. The season begins September 9 on FOX Sports 1 with a two-hour edition, covering 11 weeks.

McGregor won the interim UFC featherweight title at UFC 189 over Chad Mendes, a teammate of Faber’s under the Team Alpha Male banner. Before the weigh-ins, McGregor and Faber had a minor altercation with one another.

“This was the best decision: to get McGregor for the Europeans,” White said. “Faber is also a great coach and has a lot to offer.”

White also stated that Faber will not fight McGregor next, as the plan is still for “Notorious” vs. Jose Aldo.
