Jeremy Stephens was so excited by his flying knee that he jumped right out of the Octagon Saturday night at UFC 189.
After exchanging for 10 minutes with Dennis Bermudez, Stephens caught him flush with a knee against the fence, finishing off his opponent with a barrage of strikes.
The 29-year-old Stephens was coming off a pair of decision setbacks to Charles Oliveira and Cub Swanson, but knew if he was able to rekindle his previous winning ways, success would find him.
“I went back and got back to the old mindset,” he said. “When you have the right mindset and the right team, you can do anything.”
The Iowa-native and current Alliance MMA fighter owns a win over UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in 2008 via third round knockout. He’s bounced around different divisions since, fighting the likes of Donald Cerrone, Anthony Pettis and Joe Lauzon.
Stephens (24-11) did miss weight, forfeiting a portion of his fight purse to Bermudez.
