Conor McGregor has repeatedly said that he’ll take out Jose Aldo at UFC 189, but now the brash featherweight has taken his prediction up a notch…
Of course, McGregor has made some pretty bold calls in the past, and he’s been right about several of them. Although, “Notorious” did say he’d stop Dennis Siver in under two minutes, but didn’t do so until round two.
Well, the brash fighter recently appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter, and while doing so, McGregor made this eyebrow raising prediction (quote via MMA Junkie.com):
“I always make accurate predictions,” McGregor said. “I have predicted many contests. I have my entire career. I predict the future. For me, I have already predicted this contest. At four minutes of the first round he will be KO’ed. I feel that the power matched with the precision, he will not be able to take it. Four minutes he will be done.”
How about that huh? If that comes to pass, McGregor will become the first man since 2005 to defeat Aldo, and the only fighter to ever KO the star. When you consider Aldo’s the only featherweight champ ZUFFA has ever known, chances are this call is going to ruffle a few feathers.
But, McGregor went to argue that you can’t have any doubts in the business of fighting, and that he doesn’t believe anyone else in MMA is doing what he’s doing. The Irish fighter also said that he’s extremely confident because of his work ethic.
Now, the question is, did McGregor factor in Aldo’s rib injury when making this prediction?
UFC 189 will go down on July 11th in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the co-headliner, Rory MacDonald will face welterweight champ Robbie Lawler.
