Patrick Williams, a former college wrestling teammate of Cain Velasquez, earned an early highlight when he choked out Alejandro Perez at UFC 188.

Williams (8-4) put his name into the UFC/WEC history books, scoring the fastest submission win when he followed up a huge right hand with a nasty guillotine choke. The finish came in just 23 seconds, eight seconds faster than that of Scott Jorgensen’s from the WEC.

“For this camp, I trained my butt off,” he said. “I went to Fight Ready and I got ready to fight.

“I have a lot of power and for this camp we used my length. I sat on my punches, but once I hit him, I saw his head go back and blood dripping so I just went for the kill.”

After a stiff right that nearly floored Perez, Williams immediately secured the choke, dragging him and his limp-less body against the fence.

Perez, a former winner of The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America, fell to 16-6 with the loss.
