Joe Proctor knew the decision would be a close one Saturday night at UFC Fight Night 68 vs. Justin Edwards.

That why, with just seconds left, Proctor went for a choke and scored, earning the submission with two seconds remaining in the third round.

It marked the latest lightweight submission in a three-round fight.

Not only did Proctor (11-3) make history, he also gave his grandfather something to look down on. Proctor’s grandfather passed away three weeks ago.

“I worked my butt off to represent my grandfather,” he said. “I pushed through every round until the last second for him.

“This is for you.”

Proctor and Edwards appeared to be destined for a possible split decision, as they each had strong moments in the opening two rounds. In the third, though, Proctor got stronger, including in the final seconds.
