After earning a unanimous decision win over Wilson Reis last weekend, Jussier “Formiga” Da Silva has started campaigning for a show down with UFC flyweight champ, Demetrious Johnson.

Heading into UFC Fight Night 67, Formiga was sitting in the #4 ranking at 125, but since the win he’s been bumped to #3. Following his latest victory, the decorated grappler had this to say about what he hopes come next (quotes via MMA

“I believe it’s time, but it’s up to the UFC to decide if I’m going to fight Demetrious or not,” “Formiga” said. “I’m coming off three straight wins, I’m the No. 3 in the division, and you can be sure that I will show my work against Demetrious Johnson.”

As the Brazilian alluded to, he’s scored consecutive wins over Scott Jorgensen, Zach Makovsky and now Reis, since he was stopped by Joseph Benavidez. The big question is, however, does the UFC think there’s enough buzz behind Formiga for a title shot? Kyoji Horiguchi wasn’t exactly a house hold name when he was tapped for a title shot, however, so why not da Silva?

And how does Formiga see a bout with Johnson going? Who is widely considered to be one of the planet’s very best fighters?

“Every fighter has its flaws. He’s a great champion, has a great timing standing, a good wrestling, and is evolving a lot on the ground, but it’s fifty fifty,” Formiga said. “I don’t underestimate anyone, but I can do a great fight with him in the future.”

It will be interesting to see what happens, but #1 contender John Dodson could be booked for a rematch with “Mighty Mouse” first.
