Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced off the UFC 187 card Saturday night, but his training partner and fellow combat sambo fighter Islam Makhachev put his skills on display.

With Nurmagomedov in his corner, Makhachev earned a second round submission win over Leo Kuntz in his Octagon debut.

Makhachev dominated, using his effective striking to work Kuntz almost into submission on the feet. Once the contest dropped to the ground, it was quickly over.

“This is combat sambo-style choke,” he said. “These guys teach me my whole life.”

Makhachev trains with Nurmagomedov under the American Kickboxing Academy banner and is now 12-0 in his career.
