Former Strikeforce champion Gegard Mousasi improved to 4-2 with the UFC by dominating Costas Philippou Saturday at UFC Fight Night 66.

Coming off a convincing victory over Dan Henderson, Mousasi (37-5-2) made sure to play it safe and control Philippou with his wrestling.

“I had the advantage (on the ground), so I played it smart,” he said. “I was not going to risk getting knocked out.”

Early on, it was evident what “The Dreamcatcher” wanted to do, as he easily brought Philippou to the canvas. Once there, Mousasi passed guard, landed elbows, connected on strikes and continued to do all three over and over again.

“He was strong and made it difficult to go for finishes,” he said. “His stand-up is dangerous, he has good knockout power.”

Philippou was returning for the first time since 2014.
