As Urijah Faber gets set to fight the UFC’s #2 ranked featherweight in Frankie Edgar on Saturday, the renowned fighter has been asked to weigh-in on another pivotal bout at 145.

That fight, of course, is the upcoming, July 11th scrap between champion Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor, which might turn out to be the biggest MMA fight of the year. While Faber hasn’t fought McGregor before (that could change in the future), he has battled Aldo, and was decisioned by the star back in 2010. In addition, Faber has helped his buddy and teammate Chad Mendes prepare to fight Aldo on two occasions, and here again, Aldo was victorious.

While Faber was speaking to the media this week in Manila, he was asked for his thoughts on the upcoming Aldo-McGregor bout. Here is what the former WEC champ had to say (quote via Bloody

“Man, it’s gonna be a good fight. I think Conor’s got that real power and Aldo has power as well. We’re still yet to see Conor’s full game tested. I don’t think he’s fought another guy that truly, really believes in himself, like Aldo does. There’s no doubt he has skill and Aldo has a lot of skill, so it’s going to come down to who’s the better fighter that night. In my opinion Aldo’s got the more well rounded game, but again, we haven’t seen Conor on the ground too much. We haven’t seen him deal with someone who’s a master kicker, someone that can really hammer kicks and knees and stuff like that, like Aldo can do. I’m going with Aldo.”

That’s an interesting take, and it’s in keeping with what several other fighters have had to say, when asked about the fight. McGregor has done nothing but impress since he arrived in the UFC, but at the end of the day, his time with ZUFFA has been much shorter than Aldo’s. Questions remain.

Case in point, Aldo joined the WEC in 2008, and since he’s been employed by ZUFFA, he’s gone 15-0.

All this aside, if Faber defeats Edgar on Saturday, it will be fascinating to see what comes next for “The California Kid.” At that point, he’d be right in the thick of the title shot mix at 145…Faber is currently ranked #3 in the bantamweight division.

UFC FN 66 will take place in Pasay, Philippines.
