A nation rich with fight fans, the Philippines has a sophisticated understanding and passion for mixed martial arts. The UFC has been nurturing this demand and interest with the help of broadcast partner ABS-CBN, who have televised international UFC live events for the past 7 years on cable and terrestrial television.

For many years fans have been vocal across social media demanding for the UFC to bring a live event to it’s shores and in January of this year the organization confirmed it’s highly anticipated UFC Fight Night Manila event on May 16 2015, headlined by two former champions, No. 1 ranked UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber who makes a long awaited return to 145 lbs.

Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, has his eye on a second championship belt as he sees this imminent battle as a stepping stone to facing the featherweight champion and claiming his victorious title. Edgar on a three-fight winning streak, has always showcased his undeniable skills in the Octagon and brings a mix of explosive stand up skills as well as being an exceptional wrestler.

Two of the most accomplished fighters in the lighter weight divisions will face off in a five round featherweight main event in Manila. The match up between Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber has been long awaited by fans and in a pairing that has long been been discussed and now will finally come to fruition. Both are top contenders in their weight and have years of experience in the Octagon, and will both bring skills that will be sure to thrill Filipino fans.

The Philippines has a long standing passion for combat sports and they also produce some of the world’s top athletes. This inaugural UFC event will see two home grown fighters take to the Octagon. Roldan Sangcha-an and Mark Eddiva, both fighting out of Baguio City will have the Mall of Asia Arena behind them when they face off against their opponents. Sangcha-an will be looking for the win against Guam born Jon Delos Reyes who brings strong Brazilian Jiu-jitsu skills with him. Eddiva will be hoping to finish American Dhiego Lima and bring victory to his home fans.

In addition to these two local UFC fighters, the event will see American Filipino’s Mark Munoz and Phillipe Nover enter the Octagon. For Munoz, this will be his retirement fight after a long standing career in MMA. This last fight for Munoz means everything to him as he fights for the first and last time in his motherland. Nover has left behind a career in nursing in New York City to become a successful UFC fighter and follow in the footsteps of his friend Edgar.
