Former UFC title contender Alexis Davis finally got the better of Sarah Kaufman, doing so in a battle of Canadian fighters Saturday night in Montreal at UFC 186.

Davis (17-6) had previously lost to the former Strikeforce champion twice, and was coming off a loss to Ronda Rousey herself.

“That was a very different Sarah Kaufman that I thought would come out,” Davis said. “She was very strong. I just told myself to stay calm and not rush in like I usually do.”

The 30-year-old was finished by Kaufman in her pro debut in 2007 via TKO and suffered a majority decision defeat five years later while both were in Strikeforce. Since that defeat, though, Davis has won six of seven, losing only to Rousey for the UFC title last July.

“This feels awesome,” she said. “She’s tough.”

Kaufman (17-3) is now 1-1 with a no-contest inside the Octagon and 5-2 with the no-contest overall in her last eight.
