If following the UFC 189 World Championship Tour you were hoping for a break from Conor McGregor related content, well, unfortunately for you, “Notorious” has made another headline grabbing comment.

Yes, as you read above, the featherweight contender has argued that he would cruise through boxing star Floyd Mayweather if they ever fought. Now sure, for knowledgeable fight fans, the claim probably isn’t a big deal, as they understand that mixed-martial-artists will beat boxers ninety percent of the time (with MMA rules). That’s what MMA has demonstrated over the last couple of decades; that’s why for a lot of combat sports fans, MMA is the best.

But, despite the growth of MMA, there are still a ton of folks who don’t really know this, particularly when you’re talking about one of the best boxers in the last few decades. So, since McGregor made the following comment to Esquire Magazine, chances are it’s going to hit a few headlines:

“I don’t look at a man who’s expert in one area as a specialist,” McGregor said. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather—pound-for-pound boxing’s best—if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”

How about that? Really, the more interesting question is how McGregor would do against Mayweather in a boxing match, as we all know that yes, chances are he’d crush “Money” in a MMA fight.

All this aside, McGregor is set to challenge featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 189 on July 11th. Mayweather, on the other hand, is about to make a bazillion dollars when he faces fellow star, Manny Pacquiao, May 2nd.
