Unless you’ve giving the internet the cold shoulder the last week, then you’ve noticed that there’s been a ton of coverage related to Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor lately. While the featherweights are two of the promotion’s biggest names, the big reason for all the Aldo-McGregor content lately, is because they’re currently on the UFC 189 World Championship Tour.
The tour has included multiple stops in the U.S. and Brazil, and all the interviews Aldo and McGregor have been doing has created more buzz for their July 11th scrap. As a result, recently UFC President Dana White told “UFC Tonight” the following (quote via MMA Mania.com):
“Personally, I think this is the biggest fight of the year. This is a fight the world will be watching. When you have a fight where countries, literally countries care about the fight, it’s a big deal. All of Brazil will be watching (Aldo) defend his title, all of the UK will be watching. And then you have Canada, the United States, Australia… It’s a big deal fight. It’s a big enough deal that we are doing this world tour. I’m gonna go out there and say, we probably spent more money promoting this fight than we have ever spent on any fight in UFC history.”
It certainly looks like it’s going to be a massive fight. Hopefully it lives up to all the hype.
UFC 189 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
