Frankie Edgar and Urijah Faber are officially headed to the Philippines, as the featherweight bout was announced Wednesday night for UFC Fight Night 65.
Set for May 16 from the Mall of Asia Arena, the former lightweight champion will meet “The California Kid” in a five-round, 145-pound contest.
Faber has recently been competing at bantamweight, but is a former featherweight champion in the WEC.
“I feel like it’s rare in this sport to have the ability, the opportunity and the fortune of having super fights at multiple weights. I started in this sport because I love it. I love the challenge and I love to perform,” Faber said. “Fighting a guy like Frankie Edgar is exactly the reason I got into this sport. I’m a fan of the heart Frankie has as a fighter, something I’m known for as well.
“I was a 145-pound champion and he was a 155-pound champion so it’s cool for me to be able to make this fight, one for the history books. I plan on winning and putting on a show in the process.”
Other bouts announced include Nolan Ticman vs. Yao Zhiqui, Zhang Lipen vs. Kajan Johnson, Tae Hyun Bang vs. Jon Tuck, Li Jingliang vs. Roger Zapata and Roldan Sangcha-An vs. Jon Delos Reyes.
