After Phil Davis decisioned Glover Teixeira in October, the decorated wrestler called out the legendary Anderson Silva, and evidently, “Mr. Wonderful” still wants that fight.

Davis is set to take on Ryan Bader this Saturday at UFC on FOX 14, but while attending a recent media luncheon to promote the bout, he was asked about his desire to fight Silva. According to a report from MMA, Davis noted that “stranger things have happened”, and also added “why wouldn’t I”, and “why wouldn’t he”, in terms of his wish to fight the former middleweight champ.

The 30 year-old American also pointed out that Silva fought Forrest Griffin, and noted that the former light-heavyweight champ is an “extremely heavy guy.” That bout took place in 2009, and as any long time /avid fan knows, it didn’t go very well for Griffin.

Davis also reportedly added “”I figure, ‘OK if you can beat Forrest at light heavyweight, I’m just little old Phil.’ I’m just little old Phil. That’s what they call me.”

Now could this fight any time soon? Davis correctly noted that “stranger things have happened”, but some pretty dramatic and mind boggling stuff would likely have to go down before the UFC considered booking Silva-Davis.

Not only is Davis hoping to take another step closer to a title shot, by getting past Bader, but Silva is scheduled to fight Nick Diaz on January 31st. UFC boss man Dana White has said Silva will lock up a title shot if he wins that fight, and “The Spider” likely isn’t interested in putting that off for a ‘super fight’ with Davis.

It’s also worth noting that Silva will soon turn 40, so one would think, he’ll be looking to maximize his time with pivotal bouts at 185. Now if he were to loose to Diaz…

UFC on FOX 14 will be hosted by the Tele2Arena in Stockholm, Sweden on January 24th, and the January 31st, UFC 183 will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
