Welterweights Jake Shields and Brian Foster will headline the next World Series of Fighting card, as confirmed by officials over the weekend.

Shields and Foster will meet on January 17 from Las Vegas in the main event of WSOF 17. So far, it is the only match up announced for the night.

Since his release from the UFC, Shields (30-7-1) has made his debut with the WSOF, defeating Ryan Ford. Overall, he is 4-1 with one no-contest over his last six fights, losing only to Hector Lombard.

Foster (22-6) sports an 8-1 mark over his last nine and is also a former UFC fighter. He has won four of five fights since returning to action following successful brain surgery.

The winner of Shields-Foster could be the next challenger to Rousimar Palhares, the reigning WSOF welterweight champion, who submitted Jon Fitch recently.
