UFC president Dana White was previously anti-female when it came to who stepped inside the Octagon and competed.
Now, fresh off airing an entire season of The Ultimate Fighter featuring just women fighters, White is all-in with the ladies.
“You’ll see a lot of women at this weight class getting into mixed martial arts and getting into the UFC,” said White, during the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show after The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale. “It was a great season. It was very unique. I say it all the time: the best rise to the top in The Ultimate Fighter.”
Despite being the betting underdog, Carla Esparza won the strawweight title by submitting Rose Namajunas in the finals. Esparza entered the show and tournament after winning the Invicta FC 115-pound title and vacating it to sign with the UFC.
“She did a real good job closing the distance and standing with (Namajunas),” White said. “She completely dominated on the ground and looked good on her feet.”
