Felice Herrig might have had a few Octagon jitters Friday night at The Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale vs. Lisa Ellis.
Moments into the first round, Ellis hit Herrig with a guillotine choke that seemed tight and to the point. After working her way free, Herrig was able to lock up her own submission, winning in a battle of TUF rivals.
“It was real close,” Herrig said. “I was gurgling. She came out strong.
“(I told myself), ‘don’t go out, don’t go out.”
Herrig (10-5) showed her submission skills in the second round, transitioning from an armbar to a triangle choke back to an armbar. The win was her third submission victory and improved her record to 5-1 in the las six.
The lone loss for Herrig since 2011 came to Tecia Torres via decision last year.
Ellis (15-9) is just 1-4 in her last five and has lost six times by submission. The three previous defeats, though, came to Jessica Penne, World Series of Fighting champion Jessica Aguilar and former standout Megumi Fujii.
