Former UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao will make his return to the Octagon this December, meeting rising contender Mitch Gagnon at UFC Fight Night 58.
Set for December 20 from Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Jose Correa Arena, the event features Lyoto Machida vs. C.B. Dollaway in the headline fight. The main card is expected to air on FOX Sports 1.
Barao (32-2) was removed from a planned rematch with new champion T.J. Dillashaw earlier this year after blacking out while cutting weight. He admitted things didn’t go as planned as he attempted to drop down to 135, but stated in an interview the night of the scheduled fight that he would remain at bantamweight.
Dillashaw won the title in May when he finished Barao in the fifth round, snapping his 33-fight unbeaten streak. The Brazilian is 7-1 since joining the UFC.
Gagnon (12-2) has won four straight, leaving his Octagon mark at 4-1, after losing his debut to Bryan Caraway. The Canadian is coming off three submission wins over Walel Watson, Dustin Kimura and Roman Salazar, along with a decision vs. Tim Gorman.
