Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes will show his outdoor skills during a four-part series of “Uncaged with Matt Hughes” on the Sportsman Channel beginning Saturday, October 18 at 9 a.m. ET.

Hughes, who hosts the show, headed to Namibia, Africa for this latest adventure. He faces off in the desert with some of the world’s most elusive big game, including waterbuck, gemsbok, red hartebeest and mountain zebra. Joining Hughes on the 14-day trip were Dan and Charlotte Catlin of The Wildlife Gallery and Blake Barnett.

“I spent a significant amount of time training for this trip, but nothing really prepares you for a big game hunt more than actually experiencing it and that was definitely true in this case,” Hughes said. “You just have to remain calm and remember what you know. This was a great experience and I can’t wait to plan my next trip.”

  • Dufresne says:

Personally I enjoy hunting, but I eat what I shoot and I only hunt on family land. I can understand the appeal of going to Africa to hunt, especially if you’re going to get paid to do it, but I can also understand where Dan Hardy is coming from when he called Hughes out about this show.

  • Screenplaya says:

Hunting for sport is barbaric, in my opinion. It doesn’t shock me that Hughes is into it. I would hate it if any of the good ambassadors for MMA were to get too involved in something like this. Many in the mainstream already consider MMA barbaric, and having our beloved icons involved in trophy hunting can’t be good. Hughes is not particularly beloved, so I guess his involvement isn’t that damaging.
