It’s taken a little while then he wanted, but Jon Fitch is finally expected to face Rousimar Palhares for the World Series of Fighting welterweight title this December.

According to a report by, Fitch and Palhares will collide at WSOF 16 on December 13. No city or venue was announced by the promotion in releasing the information.

Palhares (16-6) and Fitch (26-6-1) were set for a meeting in July, but Palhares bowed out after his mother fell ill. He won the title with a March submission victory over Steve Carl after he was released by the UFC.

Fitch is a former title contender inside the Octagon, having defeated Josh Burkman, Marcelo Alfaya and Dennis Hallman upon signing with the WSOF.

The WSOF returns to NBC Sports Network this Saturday night with WSOF 14 headlined by Jake Shields vs. Ryan Ford. Also, a heavyweight champion will be crowned when Derrick Mehmen meets Smealinho Rama. In November, three titles fights headline WSOF 15.
