Former Strikeforce champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal has been added to the Bellator 131 lineup, as he will face Tom DeBlass. Officials announced the light heavyweight contest recently.
Set for November 15 from San Diego, the main card airs on Spike TV. The featured bouts include Tito Ortiz vs. Stephan Bonnar and Michael Chandler vs. Will Brooks for the vacant lightweight title.
Lawal (13-4) has split his last four fights, including a September win over Dustin Jacoby via TKO. He was scheduled to meet DeBlass at Bellator 123, but an injury forced the change. Lawal lost to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson earlier this year after defeating Mikhail Zayat.
“Tom has been talking since we were supposed to fight in September. He’s a good fighter, but my jab is going to erase his teeth and swell up his eyes,” Lawal said. “My right is going to make him see stars and bright lights. Another fight, another win.”
DeBlass (9-2) is on a two-fight win streak and appears recovered from the knee injury that knocked him out. His only two losses came in 2012 while he was in the UFC, falling via decision to both Riki Fukuda and Cyrille Diabate.
“Listen, I respect Mo and I think he’s a world class athlete,” DeBlass said. “That being said, I know what I’m capable of, and I not only believe that I will win the fight, but I’m going to finish him. Bellator has treated me incredible, and I’ve been asking for big fights. Let Mo do his talking. His mouth is his best weapon.”
