Heavyweights looking to get back on track will meet this December, as Travis Browne takes on Brendan Schaub at UFC 181. Officials announced the match up after an initial report by

Set for December 6 from Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, the main card features two UFC title fights. Chris Weidman defends his middleweight belt against Vitor Belfort, while Anthony Pettis puts his lightweight title on the line against Gilbert Melendez.

Browne (16-2-1) had his three-fight win streak snapped this past April when he lost via decision to Fabricio Werdum. The former basketball player has positioned himself as a possible No. 1 contender after finishes of Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga in 2013.

Overall, Browne is 7-2-1 in the UFC’s heavyweight division, including six finishes.

Schaub (10-4) suffered a loss in June to Andrei Arlovski via split decision, seeing an end to his two-fight win streak. The former Ultimate Fighter runner-up defeated Matt Mitrione and Lavar Johnson last year after knockout losses to Ben Rothwell and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Below is the current lineup:

UFC Middleweight Championship
Chris Weidman (c) vs. Vitor Belfort

UFC Lightweight Championship
Anthony Pettis (c) vs. Gilbert Melendez

Heavyweight: Travis Browne vs. Brendan Schaub

Thats the start of one awesome card. I think Brown is the better overall fighter here and will handle Brendan. And Melendez for the title win.

  • Dufresne says:

Only three fights scheduled and it’s already looking like one of the best cards of the year.

I’ve clearly missed something when it comes to Brendan Schaub, I don’t get why he is in the UFC, let alone getting main card fights against decent opposition. Guess they must want Browne back in the win column pretty quick

  • AlphaOmega says:

I think it’s something to do with Evans. i don’t get it either, I know he was touted as an amazing guy on the TUF, but Big Country flattened him in their contract fight, and he’s been very roller coaster since
