Former UFC title contender Yushin Okami will compete for World Series of Fighting gold this October.

During a recent conference call, WSOF president Ray Sefo confirmed plans to pair Okami with middleweight champion David Branch at WSOF 15. The event will take place October 24, but no location has been determined.

Okami (30-8) was released by the UFC last year following a TKO loss to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. The defeat snapped a three-fight win streak for the fighter, who challenged Anderson Silva in 2011 for the UFC title.

“Thunder” went 13-5 during his UFC career, including wins over Alan Belcher, Mike Swick, Evan Tanner, Mark Munoz and Nate Marquardt. He dropped bouts to Silva, Chael Sonnen and Rich Franklin.

Branch (14-3) earned a submission victory over Jesse Taylor earlier this year to win the inaugural WSOF title. He has picked up four straight victories since a decision loss to Anthony Johnson two years ago.

The only other losses on Branch’s resume have come to Rousimar Palhares, the reigning WSOF welterweight champion, and Gerald Harris.
