Edson Barboza Serves Notice To Lightweight Division

edson barboza

Edson Barboza is a proud Brazilian, but he appears to have found a new home in New Jersey.

Wednesday night, Barboza earned another victory in the state, defeating Evan Dunham at UFC Fight Night 45 with a devastating liver kick.

“I trained so hard for this fight,” said Barboza, during the post-fight show on FOX Sports 1. “This is my house. I live here in New Jersey. I’ve fought in New Jersey four times and I’ve got four wins.”

Back in 2010, Barboza scored a first round knockout while fighting for Ring of Combat in Atlantic City. Later that year, he earned another finish thanks to leg kicks, netting himself the ROC lightweight title.

Barboza’s (14-2) second UFC fight came in Newark, as he scored a decision over Anthony Njokuani. Overall, he has won four of his last five, with the lone loss coming to Donald Cerrone this past April.

It was just three minutes into the first round when Barboza saw his opening and attacked Dunham, taking the advice of his corner to heart.

“I saw his elbow a little up and my muay Thai coach said, ‘Kick, kick, kick,’ and that’s what I did,” he said. “I train my whole life. I can’t wait to train again.”

the guy’s 8-2 in the UFC, that’s pretty bloody good by any standards. No shame in losing to Donald Cerrone that’s for sure. Guy has potential, needs to be fighting top 10 guys from now on, see where he’s really at.

    great night for gut shots…
Smith, Barboza, Lineker, Cerrone, even Pat Healy was giving it a go

also I think this says a lot about the current state of the UFC, if not MMA, but John Lineker looked great last night, better than ever. Made weight, great cardio, great chin, walking through punches, blasting away for 15 minutes, and my mate I was watching with says ‘bet he gets popped for something after this fight’.
Worse thing is, i was sat there thinking the exact same thing

    great fight though
