According to a report by, recently-retired fighter Chael Sonnen failed a second pre-fight drug test administrated by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Sonnen was found to have human growth hormone and recombinant human erythropoietin in his system. Earlier this year, Sonnen failed a test for two different substances.

The three-time UFC title contender made his retirement official earlier this month, stating he wanted to live a healthy life. Sonnen previously used testosterone replacement therapy, but both the NAC and UFC outlawed the drug.

“Yes, the commission is aware of other prescribed medications I was taking and I will not challenge their allegations,” Sonnen said. “I will cooperate with the commission and look forward to having a dialogue about how fighters who transition off TRT can avoid violating any rules.”

The UFC released a statement on the matter after Saturday’s event, saying, “We are made aware that a second random test resulted in a positive test result for Chael Sonnen. Chael will have an opportunity to appear in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission on July 23. We will support the commission and continue to ensure that all competitors complete on a level playing field free of performance enhancing drugs.”
