UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson hit contender Ali Bagautinov with just about everything in his arsenal Saturday night at UFC 174.
And while “Mighty Mouse” was unable to keep his streak of finishes alive, he did move his win streak to six with a decision victory.
Johnson (20-2-1) hasn’t lost since a 2011 decision defeat to Dominick Cruz for the bantamweight title. He fought Ian McCall to a majority draw the next year, and has won every fight since.
“Ali is tough,” Johnson said. “I hit him with a lot of hard shots. Knees, punches; my knee is on fire. It was a great fight.”
After a submission over John Moraga and a knockout of Joseph Benavidez in 2013, along with a decision over John Dodson, Johnson appears to be well on his way to cleaning out his division. He’s defeated the Top-5 listed fighters behind him on the official rankings chart.
For Bagautinov, the loss snapped a 11-fight win streak. He is now 13-3 in his career and 3-1 with the UFC.
“I knew he was tough,” Johnson said. “I just wanted to keep pushing. I’m the king and I’m going to stay that way as long as I can.”
