Josh Burkman has suffered a hyper-extended elbow, along with ligament damage and a bone bruise, and will not make his planned July 5 date with Jon Fitch at WSOF 11. Burkman sent out a message on Twitter Wednesday confirming the injury.

The fighter posted that he’ll be out of action for four-to-six weeks, but is planning a “vacation and I’ll be back.”

Burkman (27-10) earned a technical submission over Fitch in 2013 for his fifth consecutive win at the time. He was finished by Steve Carl later that year, but rebounded with a knockout over Tyler Stinson in March.

After some issues with his contract that were played out over social media, Burkman decided to resign with the promotion. He previously competed for the UFC from 2005-08, going 5-4.

No new opponent for Fitch has been announced by the WSOF.
